PETER TOOKE
I grew up in Hertfordshire, sometimes visiting East Anglia, a flat land of big skies, fens, black soil and waterways. I have early memories of a landscape painting by Rowland Hilder. On trips to museums and galleries, I was much taken with the landscape pictures, particularly the Turners.
Much later, I lived in hilly South Worcestershire, where many of my adult pastimes - such as walking, horse riding, angling, field archery, bird watching and wildlife conservation - were outdoors in nature.
I find watercolour an ideal medium for portraying landscapes, and like to explore different techniques and styles. Landscapes can convey arresting moments of beauty or drama in a scene. I hope people catch these moments when looking at mine.
